Rich Gouinlock is an artist currently residing in Urbana, IL.
Most of Rich’s work consists of oil and printed paper on canvas. He employs a collage process in which the printed media on the paper is obscurred and repurposed. This is achieved by cutting, tearing and applying the materials onto the canvas with oil colors and mediums. The results are textural compositions and abstract landscapes. The thematic thread which runs through much of the work suggests the inescapable ubiquity of print media and how its over-saturation in the artist’s world calls into question its overall meaningfulness. Thus, Rich hopes to create something beautiful out of the superfluous.
